Smith & Wesson Model 36 Chief's Special Double Action Revolver. Based on
the 32 Hand Ejector, with the frame lengthened to permit longer cylinder
necessary for .38 Special cartridge. Caliber, .38 Special. 5- shot
cylinder. Barrel lengths; 2 or 3 inch. Overall length, 6 1/2 inches.
Weight: 19 ounces. Fixed sights. Blued or nickel finish. Checkered walnut
stocks, round or square butt. Made 1952 to date. Also available with alloy
frame (Model 37) or stainless steel (Model 60).
In short, the kind of lightweight, stubby revolver a police chief or
detective might carry to satisfy duty gun regs but not to be a burden to
carry concealed.
