I appreciates Meg's question to me and will give it some thought later in
the evening. Unfortunately I've got to leave. Let me say however
that those who would be unhappy with the assertion a real man wants
absolute possession would be quite on target. What if I had put quotes
around "real man." I half meant it ironically, except that I don't really
like irony very much. I had in mind (possiblly inappropriately) a real man
gripped by jealously--jealously for one he feels is all too capable of
"betraying" him. This real man is about the most unattractive creature on
the face of the earth. The examples that comes to mind are in Proust.
First Swann with respect to Odette and secondly M with respect to
Albertine. I realize I haven't really explained anything but will do so
when I return hopefully not too late.
