I must disagree once again with Millison.  I find this interpretation 
unpersuasive narrowing.  And I think, to a degree, it diminishes what GR 
achieved.

We are still today much more in the post-WW II era than in the post-Viet Nam 
era.  That Pynchon recognized the long shadow of WW II even as Viet Nam and 
everything else that falls under the broad category "the sixties" was 
underway is much to his credit.  I've always felt so, at any rate.
