Not sure that one needs to be "idealistic" or "altruistic" to join
the Resistance or to become a perfect spy.  Le Carre covers that ground
pretty thoroughly in the cold war context; his observations of the type
(best in "The Perfect Spy") ring pretty much true to me and seem
transferable to other contexts.  "Human" yes -- conflicted, pursued by
the Furies, and probably damned, most likely.  Capable of killing
people by remote control while supressing self-loathing and preserving
personal existence, of course.  Pinch sends both Katje and Pirate to
hell in Part Four.

Nice point -- perhaps there is another spy in place with Blicero's
Battery.  This might be a reason the British don't feel the need to
bomb Blicero himself, yes?  Don't need to badly enough to force the
point with Katje Their Creature.  However, if Katje has an active
accomplice she doesn't acknowledge it even to herself, does she? 
Perhaps she has enough status, as Blicero's pet, to have the run of the
place.

As to Pirates' Mossmoon thing, that is of course in his dossier. He
damn well knows it and so do we.
