Dumb Question: Pynchon and Meta-Musil

If P wrote high modernism stuff:

Do ye think that if Pynchon was writing in the 20s, he woulda written 
something like _Man W/o Qualities_?  I'm kinda chugging along and popped 
into into my head (of course, reading Vineland, I alos been been picturing 
Michael J, Fox pontificating on Austrian decadence. don't know wtherther to 
laugh or shudder ;) )
