<<Hollander is indeed a well-received and respected Pynchon critic,
though I am not familiar with the article you mention or the connections
he
traces in it between _Lot49_ and the assassination of JFK. It seems to
me to be way too subtle if that was in fact Pynchon's intention with
the novel -- it doesn't really work because the reader doesn't 'get'
it.>>

After reading Hollander's article, many readers will get it. The
meticulous detail used in making the case is stunning. But, even if few
readers ever got it, Pynchon is always dealing with the
multi-dimensional, perhaps even archetypal, nature of human
experience--personally and historically. So, there is always much that is
and is not gotten. Things are always happening on several planes
simultaneously. One reading Pynchon can always recognize the plane the
plane boss the plane that falls within their region of experience or
expertise. It seems so obvious to them. But he's covering a lot of planes
at once. Hollander has the political plane down it seems to me.
