These explanations are OK but seem a bit too elevated. Sex drives the plot
in DIFFERENT ways. It cross fertilizes the various characters and
elements of the story. For Slothrop it's a way of saying howdy (the
seventies were the height of the sexual revolution) but it's also the
distribution of the rocket hits. Between Roger and Jessica it allows
pillow talk about various important matters. For Weissman it's high
romanticism, an eden all too quickly consumed in fire. Above all the sex
in GR is just plain interesting in itself. It's sort of why we go to the
movies. We are all voyeurs. As Pauline Kael said "I lost it at the
movies."
