yes on all counts, Mr. C, but there grew quite an competition between 
Himmler and Canaris--Himmler, more and more, inched onto Abwehr territory, 
eventually getting what he wanted when the Abwehr was discredited (ie 
Canaris) by the July plot. The SS became a state w/i a state, including 
quite a large network of intelligence gathering arms.
