In a review on a new historical study (- Christof Mauch: Schattenkrieg gegen
Hitler. Das Dritte Reich im Visier der amerikanischen Geheimdienste 1941-1945.
Stuttgart 1999: DVA) in today's FAZ the OSS is introduced as "that American
secret service of WW II, which mixes serious and adventurous, bureaucratic and
fantastic elements, and which is comparable to a polype with countless
tentacles". On William Joseph Donovan it says: "Critics blamed him for his
tendency to confusion, his chaotic style and for being fascinated by the most
bizarre projects". Well, sometimes I get the feeling that GR isn't a satire at
all. Then it seems to be a documentary with a very high budget.

 Sunny wishes, Kai
