Dudious' comments reminded me of a coupla dog-related quotes:

 "If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite
you; that is the principal difference between a dog and a man." -- Mark Twain 

Interestingly, though, if you give a starving dog 10cc's of Sodium Amytal,
he too will lead you down a toilet.  (It's a little-known fact that Lassie
was a serious narcotics addict -- "Lassie's trying to tell us something --
she needs another fix." &-& "You never bit the Kenosha Kid, did you girl?")
