All:

Just out of curiosity - has anyone brought up the new book of 'essays on
literature and belief' by James Wood. It's called the Broken Estate and
published by Random House. Pay no heed to the suffix of my own email
address. Yes, I do work at Random House and yes, I do work with this
particular title - but no, this is not an unabashed plug for the book.
At least it's not intended as such.

The book contains 21 chapters of literary essays by Wood. I imagine all
would be particularly interested in 'Thomas Pynchon and the Problem of
Allegory,' but there are also pieces on DeLillo, DH Lawrence, Jane Austen,
Flaubert, Chekov, TS Eliot, Updike, Julian Barnes, Philip Roth and more.

To again emphasize that this is not an blatant plug -
I've got 3 galleys left for the first three folks to email me

I'm also very curious to see if anyone has heard of this or it has been
spoken of here on the list.
