But isn't Spectro's task to make them forget about the terror of the
blast. Why have they lost *all* their "old behaviour and attitudes"? I
don't get the impression that Spectro is churning out zombies. What I do
think is going on is that there are so many, the wards are so crowded,
that some are released prematurely still in a mindless daze and that
these are the ones Pointy is preying on at the bus station. Thus, his
poor strike rate. On the other hand, he *wants* Spectro to give him a
patient in the condition you describe, however, Spectro's ethics are
still somewhat intact. So, good old mindless blank slate Slothrop will
be the fox. Yes, "children" is definitely metaphoric.
