Yo Dude:
Right on, right on, RIGHT ON. And if we see Pointsman as
standing for all those isms that ally themselves with control (Pavlov,
Skinner, behaviorism, & Calvinism, Puritanism, Nazism) we find him the
embodiment of "totalitarianism." In good Menippean form Roger Mexico should
stand for anti-controlism, stochasticism, spontaneity, psychological systems
that have room for more than "stimulus-response" mechanics, etc. Call Roger
"anti-totalitarianism" and watch for it as the band plays on.
By totalitarianism I mean: the individual is totally subject to the
absolute state authority, in all aspects of life, and should be made to
participate in the productive capacity of the state, even if (and especially
if) by coercive measures like terrorism, censorship, imprisonment and state
murder. This is a definition I cobbled together from dictionaries and
poly-sci books. IMHO it is central to reading this book. To varying
degrees, various characters play out this definition, while others are
victimized by it. But what do I know, I'm only...

              Max
