This may be naive as well as obviously off-topic, but I was wondering
about these recurrent viruses (and of course the virus warnings, many of
which, unlike this one, are bogus) which do not create themselves but
which are set loose by people interested in making technological
mischief.
Is there an analogy between the sort of opposition to authority
represented
in GR by the Counterforce, Enzian, Tchitcherine, the Argentianians, and
others
not quite united by opposition to the novel's (the society's?) Elect,
and the
people letting these anti-technological technological weapons loose? Or
is the net itself in some ways a source of resistance to official
sources of
power?
No axe to grind yet--I'm just curious about list members' sense of any
match between Pynchon's ambivalence to technology and developments
nearly a generation after the novel.
