Ah, at last a subject I can sort of follow! I read Stephenson's _Snow
Crash_ with high expectations (TRP's name did, after all, feature
prominently in the gushing on the back cover). Unfortunately, I
didn't particularly like the book, and was mystified by the claim that
it was like Pynchon on fast forward, or something like that.
_Cryptonomicon_, OTOH, _is_ worth a read, and perhaps even a
comparison or two to TRP. (I have to admit to a certain trepidation
when I rushed out, on a friend's recommendation, to buy a copy and
realized that: it was only available in hardcover, and that it was by
the same guy who wrote _Snow Crash_.) Still, I was not disappointed
until the very end, and even then not devastatingly; but the journey
is definitely worth the price of the ticket.
Take this for what it's worth: my friend and I are both geeks, and
therefore predisposed to like _any_ book that has Perl programs in it...
