Kai remarked that the kk passage reminds him of _Ulysses_.
one of my early impressions was that the kenosha kid is code for james joyce.
(kk -> jj, word/sentence games
organic structure, a-and... wasn't there an "up, up..." somewhere in the
preceeding section or two?).

also, on a different thread, RJ's comparison of the two city/children passages
made me notice that
"pointsman pirate" sounds a bit like "pontius pilate" (though TS reminds me more
of brian than of jesu).
