Messages from Beyond the Zero

Hello folks,

There have been some questions recently about messages on this list from
persons not on it. This is by way of an explanation.

Posts from non-subscribers (and some subscribers that the list software
thinks are not) come to the list-owner (currently yours truly) for
approval. I normally approve posts (containing announcements, weblinks
etc) that I consider relevant to the list (and given its history, even
if occassionally tangential), but not the subsequent discussions/flames
resulting from them (unless list subscribers CC their discussions to the
list) - relevance being in the eye of the list-owner, of course.

I've found this over time to be a nice compromise between approving
everything and nothing. If you don't want to see off-topic threads on
the list, then please keep the subsequent discussions off-list.

If anyone disagrees with this policy, they're welcome to suggest
alternative ideas.

Murthy
