And this raises all the usual questions about what it means for
something to "is" something in the novel. What are the criteria for
^determining^ what something 'is?' And what does 'is' mean. (Smoke'em if
you've dipped 'em.) The passage in question offers several options for
looking at the terms 'Kenosha' and 'Kid,' thus I'd be interested how one
could come up with criteria for discussing what is the kid and what is
not which are not undermined by the passage itself.
