Really a great connection.
The Father sacrificing the Son.
Remember Slothrop's daddy's deal.
It seem Gottfried and Slothrop may have their own parallels.
Which is Issac? Which...?
Blicero, the Witch-Daddy?
Isaac is a figure, typos, of the Christ. Abraham was to sacrifice the
CHOSEN line (his second son, the first (call me ...) by Hagar, offered be
Rebecca as substitute for her own womb, this sustitute interpreted as an
act of disbelief in God's promise, but such substitutions were "legal")
when bringing the blade down on Isaac. Isaac was promised years before his
birth to the barren couple, who were prophesied to bear a lineage as vast
in number as the stars in the sky. The two were about 90 years old (early
Old Testament years) at the time of prophesy.
The UNCHOSEN son, Ishmael, was not appointed to sacrifice. This seems a
swithceroo on the "only begotten/chosen" lineage Typos. Legitimate vs.
illegetimate. Chosen vs. Exiled/Discarded.
