Good point. But they're in the text. TRP deals with these issues in GR, and
with most if not all of these points in his other novels, stories, and
non-fiction writings (see the P-list archives to see how they came up in
VLVL and MDMD, for example). They must mean something to him or he wouldn't
return to them again and again.

Isn't that what we get to do as we read GR? You work backwards from TRP's
text and figure it out -- perhaps an example of the sort of "ultimate
meaning" TRP might like his readers to derive from his novel.
