GRGR(4) Proof of the pudding

Pudding has always seemed to me to embody a bit of Tristram Shandy's Uncle
Toby, the retired military man who replays the great European battles of
the past while he nurses his war wound. But Pynchon is not nearly so loving
with Pudding -- condemining him to eternal humiliation in his shit-eating
scene with Katje -- as Sterne is with Uncle Toby.
