While we're about it, what would you say of a lister who invents a new
identity in order to converse with itself and thereby inflate both
personas' profiles on-list? I realise millison will often quote and
respond to his own posts -- I'm not concerned about that, and I haven't
really got a problem with it. Doug's up-front at least. And s~Z with his
Mr Wyrmie, English Girls & co: his affectations of schizophrenia are
quite charming. Other anonymous usernames (we're all anonymous, aren't
we) are rife, but I think most list participants are having one crack at
the cherry each. But, these two identities are quite prominent in list
discussion, and, looking back over the posts of the past couple of
months, have sometimes "ganged up" to argue a point or put forward a
case, to present a seeming consensus where none in fact exists. His/its
painstaking and elaborate duplicity has been more than just a bit of a
lark -- it's disturbing and unethical, if ethics can be said to exist in
virtuality, and now that I've realised it I'm pretty annoyed personally
that such a hoax has been perpetrated -- but I'm not about to reveal who
it is because I'm not a cop. In fact, I'm actually quite worried for the
sanity of the particular person concerned, to be quite honest. What also
concerns me is the possibility that this lister is also a "hacker", with
way too much time on his/its hands. So, be warned.

This is an open letter to the personas involved (in fact, there may be
more than two of you, come to think of it). Much of the disruption and
unpleasantness and faction-fighting on-list in recent times is down to
*you*.
