Meta-P-List ramble

This nonsense is tiresome.  The more it continues, the more I find myself
supporting a moderated list.  

Will someone please inform me as to what, exactly, would be lost if the
list became moderated?  Freedom of speech?  To say what?  To trade insults,
to carry on seemingly endless petty feuds?  Oh, what a great blow to
Pynchon Appreciation that would be!  There are still plenty of places where
that can be done on and off the Net. I've subscribed to moderated lists,
and found that good moderators actually add to the discussion.

Whaddaya say, Murthy and Oliver?  Any possibility that you'd allow
moderators on this list?  Or is that simply out of the question, even on a
trial basis?
