re moderated lists, it would, imho, be ideal if we could:
1) split the list (as well as the digest) into 3 parts:
pynchon-lm (moderated)
pynchon-l
pynchon-lf (flame)
call it a "tri-partite list" if you will...
2) reserve pynchon-lm exclusively for formal group discussion activities like
GRGR, VLVL, MDMD, etc... (one topic at a time).
3) have whoever the session leader happens to be moderate pynchon-lm during
his/her session.
(a plausible scheme for this might be to have waste.org send all the posts to
the leader once every few hours. the session leader then sends forwards the
posts back to waste once or twice a day after making sure everything is more or
less in-bounds. waste then sends the moderated posts out on pynchon-lm. a simple
perl program could ensure that only posts containing the GRGR or MDMD or
whatever the code for the topic on hand happens to be could get into pynchon-lm
and ensure that these posts did not get cross-posted on pynchon-l (which would
be used for the more free-wheeling general discussion). posters could, if
rebuffed from the session leader / moderator for example, cross-post their XYXY
posts into pynchon-lf)
4) allow subscribers to choose any combination of the lists (including digests
which would exist for all three).
eg were such a setup available, i myself would probably subscribe to pynchon-lm,
pynchon-l-digest, and pynchon-lf-digest (maybe switching back and forth between
pynchon-l and pychon-l-digest as time permitted).
sorry if that was long-winded...
