For what it's worth, some moderated lists do not involve pre-approval.
After a questionable post appears, a moderator can send a gentle "warning"
note. (There can be several moderators in addition to the listowners.)
To those who get a kick out of the verbal beatings doled out here and claim
that moderation would be "fascistic"--don't you think that enjoying the
beatings (when all the participants aren't enjoying the beatings) is at
least as "fascistic"? This listserv wasn't conceived as an SM dungeon for
Pynchon fans. People who sign up have, theoretically, consented to
*discuss* Pynchon, not to get into fights. Who's looking out for the
people who are unwillingly caught up in a fracas?
Just wondering,
d.
