"What's going on with Slothrop in this discussion? Can we discuss him?"

That kind of a plea can finally bring me out of lurk mode as I promised
during the recent roll call. Slothrop is slowly learning about his own
past and the shocks of those revelations are perhaps postponing his
realizing what his family has meant to the German rearmament that led
to WW II. "Shit, money, and the Word, the three American truths,
powering the American mobility, claimed the Slothrops, clasped them for
good to the country's fate." [28.8-10] Now, he learns that his family
not only helped the American evil empire, but that German one, too. In
addition to the spread of religious dogma (the Word). Seems like that
shit wiping use of the products of his family's paper industry may have
been the only beneficial contribution his family has made to history.
For the moment, though, all of that is overshadowed by the bits and
pieces he is gleening from the documents he has been given about what
happened to little Infant Tyrone. The "eight ink marks" [285.18] that
spell Slothrop only point to him right now - "It is all allied with the
Worst Thing." [286.31-3] Will he have some sort of Proustian moment if
he ever gets a whiff of that Imiploex G - "he knows that what's
haunting him now will prove to be the smell of Imipolex G." [286.39]
In these documents he is the "Schwartzknabe" [286.11-12]
("Blackchild"), what that will come to mean, Slothrop can only
speculate, not having ever seen Imiploex G. As far as the other family
relationships you mention, well, I'm supposing that you weren't really
serious about his blood connections to Enzian, etc.
