For the most part, no one was in control. For all the elaborate
technology used, it was still pretty much of a point and shoot and hope
you hit something deal. Brenschluss, according to Dornberger (_V2_,
1955) via Weisenburger, was initiated when ground personnel sent a
radio command to the rocket when it reached a set velocity as it was
measured by telemetering devices. The IG guidance controls for
Brenschluss were never used in combat, again according to Dornberger,
and never went into production, though some were tested over Poland in
1944. So much for reality. Now, if you want to talk about paranormal
types of control (and, with _GR_, why not?) It IS interesting (and
fun) to think about the two-way causality with Slothrop and Katje. I'm
supposing you mean by this that Katje was sending the rockets to
Slothrop and just as Slothrop was in some way guiding them to him for
whatever Tristan and Isolde, love-death paradox reasons. OR was Katje
trying to target Slothrop's real or imagined lovers in order to
eliminate the competition? Well, that would mean the map had some
precognitive meaning or causal connection, which I'm not as convinced
as Neil that it does. Or that Imipolex G zeroing in on certain of
Slothrop's bodily fluids or even his erections? "On our next edition
of 'Sightings'. . ."
