Thanks for this: I'm reading _Life and Fate_ by Vasily Grossman, and
people fly around in dakotas.  I figured it was a DC-3, but wasn't too
sure.

It's a great novel, of interest to pynchonites.  I just read through
a sequence of crowding into the baths while jars of 'Zyklon B' are
being loaded up.  It's vaguely the story of Stalingrad in late 1942,
but sweeps all over the map.
