Katje-bird, quite a catch Keith.
At some point in VLVL, I stopped counting the bird references they were so
frequent, beginning at the beginning with those passenger pigeons and
dogfood-stealing blue jays. I didn't pay attention in M&D, but something
tells me that book might have a lot to offer, bird-wise, too, beginning
with a certain Duck.
Plastered in feathered ecstatic flight is one thing; tarred and feathered
is something else. Slothrop in bird regalia, then later a pig. . . does he
assume any other animal disguises. Animal totems are powerful magic.
I'd be surprised if somebody hasn't written something significant about
Pynchon's animal imagery.
