...and the vatican is replete with them. I don't believe that Gumpel 
is making huge waves with his effort, my suspicion is that any 
audience for this stuff is pretty much persuaded that the Vatican was 
up to its withered balls in Nazis. But I also believe (and I count 
myself among the most vociferous of vatican baiters on the planet) 
that any such activity spanned a spectrum from omission to comission.
The record of Pius does not seem terribly clear. 

It is important, however, to not slag the faith in an effort to 
critizise the insitution
