I've only read articles about the case, but I think it might be a bit 
unfair to call Irving a pseudo-scholar.  Many historians regard his work as 
quite important although he is, however, quite misguided and overzealous in 
his attempts to discredit other holocaust historians.  The irony of this 
trial is that an historian who holds views that are in opposition to others 
can have his work and his life squashed by naysayers.  I'm not at all 
defending Irvings views.  He quite frankly, a large, stupid ass.  But the 
idea that other historians who don't agree with him can prevent his work 
from coming to press is nothing less than fascist.
