And there are those who would with a pathological virulence misread--if bother
really to read at all--not to mention attack, either on of offlist, thsoe who would
offer perfclty tenable readings (can't speak for Crownshaw, haven't read him) ...
this the kind of behavior they encourage in literary circles these days?  Well, no
... but is anybody here tiring, tired of this sort of harrassment?  I'd call it
bullying, but that would imply a certain amount of muscle behind the attempt ... but
God forbid we'd leave discussing literature and/or history to say, novelists,
history and literary critics ...
