Speaking of the OED, I am on the verge of finishing the Professor and the
Madman, a very interesting book on two prominent figures in the creation of
the OED, Dr. James Murray, the books most important editor and Dr. W.C.
Minor who was one of the most prolific contributor to the OED from his home
in a British asylum.

According to the book, the OED was begun in 1857 and finished releasing it
first version over 70 years later in 1928.
