On the subject of Pynchon-blurbed writers . . . though rather annoyed 
(albeit intrigued) by _Arc d'X_, I nonetheless read, and highly recommend,  
_Leap Year_.  The book, written in 1989, is a mix of fact and fiction about 
the 1988 presidential election (you know the cast, Doubya's Dad, Gore, 
Dukakis, et. al.).  Of course, Sally Heming has a significant role as well.  
The parallels with the current campaign are almost eerie.  The Tipper and Al 
parts are my fave.
