The Vatcan has never placed too much authority in Bliblial text.  Church 
hierarchy, starting with the Pope, is far more important, followed by 
tradition.  The Bible's weight is below these, thus the Vatican never really 
had to bend on this one.

Southern Babtists on the other hand...
