Can never remember it... yepp!!!! have remembered it: Ellis
Peters (f) is the author.  Brother Caedfael, with Derek Jacobi in
the title role.  Set at Shrewsbury on the Welsh border in
something like the 1100s.

Not one book but a whole series.
