Edith Pargeter, aka Ellis Peters died 1995. In 1977 she created the
character of Cadfael, a Welsh monk, now in his 60s, and a Brother in the
monastery of Saints Peter and Paul, in Shrewsbury, England. The time period
is the 1100s. He first appears in A Morbid Taste for Bone and continues his
adventures in twenty more books. Brother Cadafel’s Penance written in 1994,
was the last novel of Edith Pargeter.

It is interesting to note, that Derek Jacobi, who plays the Cadfael role on
TV, played the role of Alan Turing  in "Breaking the Code" (a 1987 play;
later made into a TV show in 1996).
