new GR edition

[Doug Millison]

The new GR edition, part of the Penguin Great Books of the 20th Century
series, is interesting. I don't care much for the cover illustration, a
cartoon rocket breaking through clouds and aimed at a landscape below. It's
printed on heavy paper with rough-cut edges, a nice sensual touch. No
foreward or introductory essay from Pynchon or anybody else, unfortunately.
New pagination, too -- this edition's 776 pages, slightly smaller than the
previous Penguin paperback, with type in a font that's different, too. All
things considered, it's a fat, substantial, handsome volume.
