To this I'd add my current obsession: J. M. Coetzee. He doesn't satisfy
the Big Book criterion of the original request, except in the sense of
the wallop he packs into each page of fairly slim volumes. I've recently
read "The Lives of Animals" and "Dusklands" and am in the middle of
"Waiting for the Barbarians". If I could I'd mail you all a copy each of
"Dusklands" - it's that good and to think it was only his first book!

I'll try and post some choice excerpts one of these days.
