Who's slavin' who?

<If we take the stance that the story of the Israelites in Egypt is true, it
<could be argued that this is a well-documented case of a race who is black
<(Egyptians) enslaving an entire people who presumably had a lighter skin
<tone (a la today's middle-eastern races).

During the Middle Ages & in Renaissance times, the "Moors" & Turks enslaved 
Europeans routinely.  In the early 19th century, the US fought the Emirates 
of Algiers, Tunis & Tripoli to rescue whites held as slaves by the North 
Africans.  It was the development of a native-born slave class of ethnically 
identifiable people, those we now choose to designate as African-American 
that created the anomalous situation of a slave society in a modern, 
industrial based nation state.
