(snipped dialogue betwixt Christina and jbor on presence of slavery pre- or
post- colonial influence)
If we take the stance that the story of the Israelites in Egypt is true, it
could be argued that this is a well-documented case of a race who is black
(Egyptians) enslaving an entire people who presumably had a lighter skin
tone (a la today's middle-eastern races.)
In reality, the subjugation of other cultures for the express benefit of the
oppressor is as old as Methuselah - but the institutionalization of that
kind of oppression is a more recent development that the west must take a
large part of the blame for.
On my more cynical days, I just throw up my hands and say everybody hates
everybody else, so whatcha gonna do? Lucky I don't have any real power, or
all the people who get uptight when my dogs take a leak on their precious
hostas would be up against the wall - pronto!
