Well I was raised in the Congregational Church (or rather, the United Church of Christ -- I don't know how or when the name was changed but members of the congregation routinely referred to the UCC as the "Congregational Church") -- this in the 1970's and 80's in California, so I don't know how much bearing my experience has on the CC of 1920's Massachusetts. But I would say the church has strayed very far from its puritanical roots, so far as not
recognizably to be the same church at which the witch-burners of Salem prayed.
