Slothrop's Nativity & Religion

Hello Paul!

Thank you too for responding to my latest eMail concerning Slothrop’s plausible birthday - twice as a matter of fact.

Well, to clear up the matter of his religious upbringing (definitely not Catholic, nor TP’s either!), on p. 26-7 the Congregational churchyard is mentioned. Now just how „Puritan“ the Congregational Confession is is a matter beyond my competence - any religious minds out there?

And looks like that other report (about a Catholic upbringing) was mistaken. If Pynchon had any Catholic upbringing, it surely would be more noticeable in his books. Anyway, astrologically, any puritan influence, no matter how small or even reverting to agnosticism does suit extremely well a „double Virgo in the !2th House.

Furthermore, Otto Sell in Episode 4, Chapter 1 on his excellent and profound, yet incompleted, Pynchon Site, elaborates on the theory of a connection, an influence at least, between GR and the major work of John Bunyan, "The Pilgrim’s Progress from This World to That Which Is To Come."

--if you haven’t booked-marked this site already. There is enough English if you are not capable of reading all the German.

Puritan or not, Slothrop "really doesn’t like to talk about his girls..."

Finally, excuse me Paul, but how old are you? -- regarding your question about „grownups“ (your word) being able to drink greater quantities without feeling nausea. At 56, and a late-started wine drinker myself (in my youth booze & meat was scorned while pot & tea were praised), the answer is simple: conditioning!! The body, the organs, simply get used to it, adjust - and red wine is healthy after a certain age. Ever hear of the "French Syndrome"?

Hope this answers your questions and comments, anything astro-
logical for me....?!

Douglas

PS: Thanks also for your comments regarding "Infant Albert"
