Sorry, there were so many posts on this topic that it'll take a while to
answer to it. I have never e-mailed to anybody who was online and answering
very quickly so that some "real" dialogue could come up. Must be very
exiting for you all, these nights. But sometimes slowlyness might be an
advantage.

Sorry, I saw neither "reactionary rant" in Doug's nor "Lord Jimism and
white-man's burden perspective" in Terrance's posts, just some good
understanding of the music business and insight in the importance of the
racial problem in America. Maybe it takes someone with a nazi-background
from a nazi-family to discover nazis and racists and I've found none here.

Absolutely right, and he's partly quoting a famous underground comic from
1970, *Pete the Plumper* (Hytone Comics) by Robert Crumb. Slothrop going
down the drain is an image he directly took from there.

You must have seen Crumb's comic *Po Po Possen* (dunno the original title)
from 1971, the English source given is "Bigg Ass Comics 2."

>Deal with it.<

I am surrounded by so much open racism and hatred of certain groups of
strangers (mostly the ones who tend to come to live here) that it makes me
sick. The last bomb-blast that killed an unborn child is not 48 hours ago.
Major politicians are forcing *civilcourage* from the people today via the
media and the only ones who are beaten up by the police are the ones who are
demonstrating illegally against the ("legal") demonstration of the German
Nazi Party. I know where I live.

A very good explanation of the condition of logocentrism and how Pynchon
deals with it, but with that last half-sentence I have my difficulties
because before that sentence you say absolutely correctly imho how important
these binaries are, especially when you point to Wolfey's major essay on
that which is still one of the best and explained a lot to me.

>So the black/white binaries are not only useless in life, they are useless
when reading GR<

Feeling oneself the higher pole of a binary is useless (as proven by
Nietzsche and Derrida) because you are defined by the other you neglect as
you define him. But 'useless when reading GR', no, you must never forget it
when entering the texts of TRP, any other major postmodern text or Harry
Potter (just read the first chapters, someone should explain the change of
perspective, the upside-down turn to the kids).

Have a nice Sunday ye all

Otto
