Origin of the name Cherrycoke

Just recently learned that the family seat of Carter Braxton, one of the
signers of the Declaration of Independence, is located at Chericoke in
King William County, Virginia. Could this be the inspiration for the
name of Rev. Cherrycoke in Mason & Dixon? I couldn't find any references
to this in the list archives, but since they're in frail health, that's
neither here not there.

My apologies in advance if this is an obvious point that has so far been
well ignored by the list. If not, I'd like my brownie point recorded.
