as an aside, so much nostalgia re: d-day has perverted the importance of 
that event.  don't get me wrong, d-day was significant, if anything opening 
up the truly two front war with Germany, but if you have watched the 
newscasts and media re: d-day, geez, you'd think russia wasn't fighting the 
germans for three years.  guess tom hanks and steven spielberg, tom brokaw 
have more pull than I'd like to think.
