It is odd, curious, as GT says, that Wolfe chooses to take
on Fish and Butler, but that is what he does. No Jameson. He
takes on the American Intellectual and American
Universities. And although his attack on Fish and Butler
(Wolfe is seated on the cover with Twain) weakens his essay,
it does not destroy his critique.

PS Hey Jane, it's MORTALITY, but I guess you fudged it
deliberately. The mandrake is in that story too, isn't it?
