Thompson has some nasty things to say about Wolfe, particularly in regards
to his standing somewhat outside his journalistic subjects so that he
doesn't really "get" what is going on at a fundamental, human level.
It's interesting to compare Wolfe's account of the Hell's Angels gang-bang
that took place at Kesey's place to Thompson's in "Hell's Angels" Wolfe
relates it like it's some joyous orgy. Thompson, on the other hand, is
horrified by it.

recently my roomate went to a lecture held by kesey. one of the perks of
living in rural oregon, i guess. anyway, keysey reffered to wolfe acid tests
as "crap that floats" as opposed to hunter thompsons work which was "cream
that rises".
