Atleast Evangelical Christianity tends to be slightly more
home-grown--even though a bit of money's there to be made from it.

Hard to tell if he's extolling or making light of the Baby Jesus. Probably
doing both. Not important anyway. The important thing it seems to me is
that both P and C are obsessed with the fallen state of natural man (as 
would be many a serious writer) and P uses Christian symbolism
such as original Sin, Preterition, Salvation, etc. P doesn't attempt a
clear cut solution to the problem as does Christianity. There's something
I can never remember about P. Is his family background Catholic. I mean
his modern dayfamily, not whatever connection there might be with earlier
famous Pynchons. Seems like I've been told the answer several times but
never can remember.
