1633 - 1634 During the Thirty Year's War, Regensburg is taken by storm by
the Swedes under Bernhard von Weimar and won back again by Imperial and
Bavarian troops. From 1663 until 1806, the Perpetual Imperial Assembly
convened in Regensburg. During this time, the ambassadors from the German
ans European royal courts made homes for themselves in the city, and founden
a multifarious culture of festivals and celebrations. 1748 The Imperial
Postmaster General, Prince Alexander Ferdinand von Thurn und Taxis, is made
Principal Commissioner (i. e. the Emperor's representative at the Imperial
Diet). He took up residence in Regensburg, and today his palace can be found
in the middle of the old city centre. Nowadays Thurn and Taxis known for the
famous Thurn and Taxis-beer.
